AK Picture Thread

Sling a loaded GP-30 grenade Launcher underbarrel, and you'd have my [oldschool 'Soviette'] Russian ex GF Alice [her parents named her 'Alice' in cyrilic after seeing a bootleg copy of Disney's Alice in Wonderland' in Leningrad].... Father was a CCCP Olympic Swimming team gold+silver medalist, Mother was a Stalin-award recipient artist for Poetry, Grandmother was a female Komisar during WW2 and was awarded Hero of the Soviet Union [immediately postwar] and was a local [Mariupol, Ukraine] party boss after... Both parents turned activists against the state by the 1980s, and died young and harried, under less than healthy circumstances.... Alice took the family money and some diplomatic connections, and shipped herself off to a fancy US private prep school for high school in the northeast [mid-1990s], then did undergrad college in the wild west... before returning to Leningrad. I have lived all over the world, and she is the most 'Soviet'-Russian person of her generation [of the highest human mental and physical capabilities] whom I have ever met... whilst also knowing and being able to 'be' all that is American better than we know, ourselves...

That same unicorn we all seek and will never feel we truly deserve, in this. Our storied and turbulent AK world... She is still out there... Kicking ass and taking names, drinking grown men under the table, and handily dropping them with one punch if they get out of line [which I have personally witnessed more than once]... and still finding time to be a professor of linguistics at the University of Berlin... like a goddamned super hero.

I don't think I've EVER posted a single picture and elicited such a lengthy, in-depth, thoughtful, accurate, all-encompassing and mind-blowing reply 🤣

But I'm absolutely here for it!

And what makes it make even more sense, is it's (she's?) a Romanian SAR-1, with a Polish grip and Russian furniture...
There was an equivocally magnificent Rumanian woman as well... Her name is Juila [pronounced 'Will-lee-ah' in classic Imperial Latin form]... She was essentially Penelope Cruze's much hotter sister... And is a VERY, very nice lady... 'too nice' to the extent of being an angel walking among humans. A passionate lover behind the scenes, nonetheless... Sporting a Masters in engineering to make all the boys feel jealous and dumb when relevant... But relegated to working in a call centre in Bucharest's demi-colonial economy.

Got this a couple days ago, was filthy and disassembly/reassembly fought me a good bit. I also removed and lightened the handguards...I'd like to stain them but they're still too dark I think, even after stripping/sanding.

I removed the rear picatinny rail and put a plastic plug there, I have an adapter/triangle stock/barrel extension coming for a P/W. Then later on I may do the UF Conversion.

Oh and I want a set of peep sights when they come back in stock

This thing is kinda chonky lol

A lot of the kit builds use American barrels and don't have the right look IMO, just FYI if that matters to you.

I had those Polish Fatties on there, they look awesome but they do hinder mag changes a bit. I did swap them out for some nice Romanians for that very reason...I no longer have that gun but I might have updated pics somewhere...

Found some! Also what the gun looked like when I got it and how it progressed with the grip choices and then cerakote and SBR...

USGI barrel bags work great for folders...which reminds me, I need to hunt one down

AKM grip on the front is the only way to fly on them, regardless... As the wood grip makes it near impossible to use 30 or 40 round mags. I have an unissued Russian AKM grip on the front of my full-length AK-63. That's just how I roll. My FEG-61 is about to get early russian AKM furniture slapped onto it [but keeping the Hungarian wood pistol grip] to match a locally used old FEG I saw and fell in love with in the sandbox.

My man..... I see you too, yearn for long lost drunken, food-filled weekends in Budapest to return to your life, as well.

Gonna P/W into a carbine first and then machine for the stock if anyone has a recommendation for who to use. Might SBR later and remove the barrel extension...
Barrel extension came in today, got it all boxed up and gonna mail it out tomorrow for the pin and weld/stock installation and he has the correct selector for it as well. Might order one of those M64 grips with the metal ferrule just to be different...

Time to dig my '92 ['Lenka'] out for a little photo shoot, I think... I believe I have her near identical twin ['Barbara', my beloved '85] here, and not in storage, as well.

Okay, the only person I know of who is THIS horny for FEG's, while owning enough number of them to prove it, is the 'real Misha' from Youtube.... are you he?.... And yes, the FEG i saw in the middle east is like that first pic, but with real russian palmswell furniture [but still early enough for no side-mount sling on stock].

Hahaha! I'm flattered but no I'm not him...but I do refer to his videos often. In fact yesterday I was watching his videos on the Kassnar SA85M hahaha!!!

Check this out. I bought this one for $425 shipped on the Files years ago. It was a home build and the rivets on the front trunnion were loosey-goosey. I sent it to Two Rivers and they fixed it all and refinished the front end. I kinda wish I kept it...along with quite a few others. Back in the day it was all easily replaceable. Not so much anymore.

I guess it's the same one pictured above. It had the OG barrel in it which was a big plus to me.

As opposed to the Century AK63DS I had earlier

Funny, I never realized how much Hungarian stuff I've had until you mentioned it, and how much I like them. I'd like to get another AK63DS or a good build, but they're pretty hard to find...

The aggravating thing to me about my amd63 clone was that side rail I needed to have removed but I never got around to it. That bothered me so much to see it on there! Ugh lol

I remember seeing all the barrel proofs on the build...but the gas system is short and explains why it doesn't have the vented gas tube. I was very new to AKs at that time and didn't know to look into it...

That thing is Hot... The Headspaced parts kit that was just sold on here for 500 and change was the deal of the season, and only the buyer knows it.... The AK community here in yankee-doodlestan needs to wake up to the un-erring, unimaginable quality of FEG guns and parts kits... especially with their being some of the last 'forgotten' top-quality AK products imported in quantity, with intact barrels and matching kits, etc.... I don't constantly remind people that FEG was the Austrian Empires's PRIMARY arsenal, for centuries for fun... FEG AK's [and their peer-era pistols] are German guns, through and through. Never losing a single molecule of quality, even after then cold war ended.
