While not strictly "gun" talk this is an awesome book I think many here would enjoy reading.
Attention sports fans this book is a brutal, visceral, gut punch that grabs you by the nuts and does not let up for 400 pages plus. If you have been on the fence about reading this book despite the awesome reviews get off your ass and do it! This book is a prequel and a sequel to the outstanding crime film made by Michael Mann. The prequel aspect is great because all the characters we liked in the original who get smoked are back in the prequel portion of the book, which takes place in 1988. The prequel is set in Arizona with the original Heat crew and a few others, and Chicago with Hanna the Detective played by Al Pacino in the movie. Hanna is tracking a scumbag home invasion crew that commits serious violence for no reason other than they enjoy doing it. The end of the prequel is a fantastic bloody set piece with bodies on the linoleum (trust me you will not be disappointed by the substantial body count). The book then fast forwards to the aftermath of the L.A. shootout from the movie. There are several twists and turns and in my opinion the most intriguing character in the book is Chris (played by Val Kilmer in the film). He experiences an evolution that the book explores and it is superb. If you are not afraid of getting your balls kicked in a little bit read this book. It is a pulse pounding trip and a suitable follow up to one of the best crime movies ever made.
