I wanted to share a progress update on my current SAIGA conversion.
As to my best of knowledge, all of these parts are genuine Russian parts. Some of these parts are also in the white and were never finished.
Furniture
- Civilian AK-100 export folding stock
- Civilian AK-9 type lower handguard (will be adding in the slots for a heat shield)
- Military Upper Handguard
- Military Pistol Grip, Screw, and Nut
Parts
- Modern AK-103 extended collar two piece brake (7.62 marked)
- Front Sight Tower plunger, pin, and spring
- AK-100 / Type B Lower Handguard Retainer
- Type C cleaning rod
- Type C Selector Lever
- Molot VEPR replacement curved bullet guide and rivet
- Civilian axis pin retaining spring
- Civilian trigger (Izzy stamped)
- Pistol grip reinforcement plate
- 5.5 mm stock pin
- Type B trigger guard and magazine catch (various small parts)
- Type AKM or transitional 74 selector lever stop plate
- Replacement trigger guard rear rivet
- Complete small parts for the 5.5 mm rear trunnion and latch assembly.
I may replace the VEPR bullet guide with a proper Izzy one, but then I'd have to cut out the square notch in the trunnion and possibly remove the barrel. I'm robably not going to do that.
I will probably use the front post and drum from the original saiga front sight sight tower.
I am most likely going to use the Type C magazine catch and Type B clover leaf bevel selector lever stop plate that came on my saiga. As those are correct for the 100 series rifles.
The sight is a PK-A red dot.
Any and all input and suggestions are welcome.
