Gun Talk PSA AK-102 Bolt

Details

Hello everyone,

I decided to take the plunge on a PSA AK-102. Seems like FTF/FTE are still an issue (among other things), and I’m looking into potentially replace the toolcraft bolt assembly entirely or perhaps swap in non-toolcraft parts (extractor, spring, firing pin, etc.).

I’m not sure what would be compatible with my bolt (e.g., can any 5.56 AK/AKM/AK74 extractor work with the 102 bolt). A comprehensive list of compatible components, or complete bolt assembly (5.56 thin stem) would be great to reference. TIA.

First I’d like to see the wear in your rifle before I recommend you anything. I have NEVER been a fan of PSA ak’s and they’ve never truly been good to go.

I had a psa krink for 3 months before I sold it. Absolutely a piece of junk. I wouldn’t recommend you stay with psa but if it is what you wanted than it’s what you wanted.

What ammo are you using, what mags are you using. How often is the failure to eject and does it stovepipe ? Does the case get stuck? Is it double feeding ? Are you getting any sign of weakness in the extractor spring ?

Ak specs are also not all mil spec and depending on parts and builder you COULD possibly have to headspace your gun if you got another bolt. If you’re really into looking for new parts, Galil ARM/SAR bolt or WBP anything polish besides pioneer, will work. Again, headspace.

I haven’t even transferred it yet. I’m only looking to be proactive in mitigating potential issues, and the bolt sounds like it’s junk (extracting, firing pin issues, etc). Seems like the first thing I should do is check the headspace with my gauges, and then check again after 1K rounds.

Doesn’t seem like I can use the WBP bolt with the PSA carrier, so I’d need the WBP AK74 bolt + carrier?

On the firing pin, I’ve seen one (1) anecdote of a WBP firing pin being used and it working on a PSA 102.

That’s essentially what this post is about; trying to find out what will work on my gun as a more robust solution to the PSA/Toolcraft bolt.
