Gun Talk FAL Mag ID

Details

I picked up some metric FAL mags a little while back and I was hoping I could get some help IDing them. I was told they were mostly Belgian surplus, but that it was possible some mags may be from different countries. I have at least 9 and I might have more in pouches, but from the ones I'm looking at I can pretty safely say five are Belgian, one is a Steyr, and there are three I'm having trouble identifying. These three mags all seem like they might have been scrubbed, as they all have similar marks on the bottom left side of the mags. They don't have any surviving symbols on the rest of the mag. The middle and right mags seem to have a more straight and flat rear locking lug, and they have an extra hole in the floorplate. They also don't have the 2 rear holes in the follower and the bump on the left goes all the way go the back of the follower. I'm almost sure the left one is Belgian, but scrubbed for some reason. All three seem to have a pretty similar finish on the follower, mag, and floorplate. I don't know FAL mags so any help is appreciated.

Comments

Also, under a flashlight the middle and right mags seem to have a greenish grey finish, but they look black otherwise. That finish is on the floorplate, follower, and the whole mag body, including the inside. I don't think it's spray paint and one of the green mags seems to have these shiny, almost glitter like flecks close up

The black one appears to be Israeli. I don't have any with followers that don't have the two square cut outs, including my new in wrap FN mags. I have Israeli, Austrian, South African, and FN suprlus mags and none have bases with the two holes, either. Not sure what those are.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Are there any ways to tell it's Israeli? It's pretty much identical to the ones I believe are Belgian, and it doesn't have any Israeli markings

They are all 'Metric' mags, at the least. SO, interchangeable with continental european models, plus south african, and brazillian

I think they are all probably Israeli magazines. It looks like the Israeli markings have all been scrubbed for some reason. The FN mags have no markings. Israeli mags seem to always have the two very visible (large) spot welds on the back near the top and bottom. FN mags, at least the ones I have, have two smaller spot welds at the bottom and one that is barely visible near the top.

I'm just not sure about the followers and the floor plates on those two you have shown. Maybe someone on FAL files could provide a more definitive answer. There are some real experts over there.

Thanks for the info. I'm out of town right now but I'll definetly check the welds when I get back
